Outside The Troubadour - we'd just done a great set.
Whatever we lacked in finesse, we made up for in passion!
Sweet memories of playing FolkScene on KPFK...
Ronnie Mack's Barn Dance was a big part of the L.A. roots music scene and a huge gig for us - most of the best alt-country and roots music acts around played there - Dave Alvin, Dwight Yoakum and more... honored to have gotten the opportunity.
Another shot from the Barn Dance
Starfest in '96 in Pomona. !0,000 peeps. Pretty good day opening for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Well, they were headlining and we were about 5 acts before them... but STILL!
Wade was an amazing addition to the band - great guitarist and guy.
Rehearsal candid at The Alley rehearsal studio - an L.A. landmark that is sadly gone. We signed our names on the bricks along with lots of other regular bands there; Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt and more...
The Toy squeeze box was a favorite for us...you can hear it on Black & Blue
Another shot from KPFK FolkScene...
Only shot of playing the Troubadour we have...
Jon in his element - lotta joy.
Listening to playback on BG Vocals - Phil, Gig, Jeb, Jon.
"In store" at Tower Records.
To play a record store gig was part of the job for most bands... to play at the famous Sunset Blvd. Tower Records was a dream!
The Carlo Robelli bass was instrumental (see how we did that?) to our sound...
Publicity shot for the second/third iteration of THL
Recording is hard work....
Lauren was a fabulous singer and great friend...and without her we would never have found Jeb.
Steve Plunkett and Tom Weir produced our album - no shots of Tom so far in the archives. But here's a shot of guys doing the BG vocals on.. .something? Steve also contributed "Good Book" to the album - big thanks!
Dex's good friend Catherine Bell invited us to be the band at her birthday. Who knew we'd end up in lifestyle magazines...
Tim Busby - our first bassist.
The reunion invited rehearsal...
Promo shoot with our record label bosses - Carol and Julie.
Val BROUGHT IT for the outro Vocal on Good Book - and she did it cold! ...still one of the favorite parts of Feel Free To Do So.
So much fun hearing Phil on a grand - during the recording of Feel Free To Do So..
THL with Doug and Mark who came in when Jon got too busy and Jeb moved back to NYC....
We were shooting the album cover - and then just trying to be helpful...
The '68 Mustang with a 289, four-barrel carb. She moved real fine.
During the making of Feel Free To Do So, we kept a worksheet going through the recording process of what had been completed and what was left to be done - all organized by song title and part (Lead and BG Vocals, Drums, Bass, Guitars, etc.). And of course MIX was the last thing on the list.
Loved this shoot with the original Johnny Socko! line up. Shot by Jeb's roomie, Joe.
Dex doesn't remember using a Guild - but might have been on Velvet Glove. During the recording of Feel Free To Do So
Gig on harp - recording LoneStar?
Jon laying down the drum tracks for "Feel Free to Do So" and grinning all the while...
Evidently, we played a gig with Dave Koz. Jeb knew him. Yes, we're that cool.
Here's Phil checking off a completed step on the worksheet.
